DIY Kids Art Wall
Are your kids prolific artists? Mine are. Displaying all their lovely creations without overwhelming your house can be challenging. This DIY art wall solved our problem.
I knew I wanted to create an art wall in the girls playroom, there is great wall space on either side of the pocket doors. This seemed like the perfect location as it is still very visible to the girls but hidden from view when you enter through the front door. You may remember from my stencil wall that the playroom is connected to the living room so I want the decor to be whimsical and appropriate but also not overpower adult space.

How we did it
We had some mahogany trim left over from our front door and office door that seemed like the perfect fit for this project.
Step One: Measure and Cut
I set my mitre saw to 30* and cut (4) pieces at 42″ from from long corner to long corner
Step 2: Finish
After lightly sanding each of the pieces I put one quick coat of General Finish Dark Mahogany which is the same color I used for the doors and windows in our house. Then I let the stain dry 24 hours and finished it off with a few coats of spray polyurethane.
Step 3: Measure and Mark
Next I measured out the spots for my clips. I wanted to make sure I could hang an 8 x 11 sheet landscape between two clips. 20.5″ was the center of the short side, I measured about 10.5″ from center for the next set of clips and then put the 4th and 5th at each end of the rail.
Step 4: Predrill
I predrilled holes for each of the clips. If you were using a soft wood like pine there would be no need to predrill for the push pins.
Step 5: Attach Clips
I put a small drop of superglue in each hole prior to attaching the clips.
Step 6: Fini!
Hang and Enjoy!
Make it your own by using different wood, different clips and custom cut to you needed length. This would also be great to display cards or photographs.
