Sweet Stencil Wall

When we redesigned the layout of our new home we really wanted a playroom that could be closed off for noise control but that was visible from our kitchen, living room, and office. 

 

We ended up with a playroom that is attached to the living room and office by two sets of doors. The new dilemma:

how do you design a fun playroom that won’t cramp your adult style?

Well, this adorable stenciled wall was part of our solution.

Their lovely playroom has a nice little nook in one corner, perfect for toy storage and an accent wall. I am still debating adding more shelving but I hate to cover up this lovely pattern.

 

 

The stencil is the Otomi furniture stencil from Royal Design Studio. I picked this one for it’s primitive but whimsical appearance…it’s timeless.

 

 

You may remember the stenciled girls’ bathroom floor and I will admit that stenciling a floor was a little easier. For this wall I used a small foam roller and just as with the brush it should be a dry technique to help prevent the paint from bleeding under the edges of the stencil.

 

 

Tips

 

Wait to do the end of the wall until everything else is dry. It was very difficult to maneuver the stencil without smudging the completed parts. I think if I did the center, let it dry, and then came back to do the sides it would have eliminated many of my challenges.



Start at the bottom. It wasn't very smart to start at the top

 

 

 

 

There are some imperfections but blend in and give it a handmade appearance. The girls were so excited when they saw the completed wall and I love how it looks from our living room and office. Most people who walk in are shocked it’s not wall paper.
