DIY Girls Bathroom Reveal
The girls bathroom reveal you’ve been waiting for!
This might be my favorite room in our house although when I walk into the other rooms and realize I really can’t play favorites. The girls’ bathroom does give me the warm and fuzzies. So much love and time went into creating a space that our little princesses could love for years to come. I wanted something sweet, sophisticated, unique, and appropriate for little girls but also something they could grow into over the years. No standard new build bathroom allowed here! It was a tall order and I think we accomplished it.
Come on in…
First, let’s talk about that door and knob. Do you love them?! The 2nd floor doors are all gumwood 4 panel doors salvaged from Boston, their patina is just lovely. Although the hinges and rosettes were intact there were no knobs. So sad.
Fortunately I stumbled across a landlord selling his old doors with the hardware…I have no idea what I will do with those gigantic Victorian doors (I’ll find something, somewhere, sometime) but I knew I needed that hardware.
You may remember the floor is concrete. I could not find any tile that suited my vision that was a justifiable price but fortunately you can read how I stenciled the bathroom floor.
The walls are a faux board and batten. Essentially we painted the bottom half of the walls white and added trim to give it that look. Full tutorial coming!
The Fixtures
The toilet is kind of a big deal. It has the hidden trap which means there are less nooks and crannies for fur, dust, and hair to collect! My primary concern was aesthetics but the toilet flushes well too.
The bath and sink fixtures are worth from Kohler in brushed nickel.
The medicine cabinet and counter with integrated sink were both finds from Re-Store It was under $100 for both!
I built the vanity and used old master gel stain in gray to give it that rich color. You can read about my DIY Vanity here.
The tub is the archer alcove tub by Kohler. I really wanted an alcove tub (drop in instead of slide in) and this was the only tub that fit our budget. Initially I was concerned about the reviews regarding the overflow and drainage system on this tub, fortunately we have experienced no problems with the tub.
The depth is awesome…have you noticed that most new tubs are ridiculously shallow? It is like they expect you take a bath in a puddle. Not this tub! The girls pretend they are mermaids, blow bubbles, and float on their back…although bath time now often resembles a hooked fish fighting a line.
The pinkey wall color is actually an oops gallon of really high quality Sherwin Williams bathroom paint. I got it for $5! I was elated when I saw it sitting there beckoning my name and immediately knew it was the perfect color for a girls bathroom.
How about that sweet framed quote? It is a printable off etsy.

One last look:
There you have it, isn’t this the sweetest girls bathroom?! What is your favorite part?
We love it, the girls love it…and it is really easy to clean but can anyone tell me how the munchkins get toothpaste on EVERYTHING?

Board and Batten Tutorial (Coming soon)
In case you missed it my husband and I completely rebuilt a long neglected 1934 cape. The adventure is going on a year and counting but we are loving our life as a family in this house. You can read all about how we ended up with the worst house and made it into our dream home.
